Guides to forging a soul on iPhone
Everything about AgentSoul: Enneagram for Bots — from your first forge to dropping the four files into Claude Code, OpenClaw, Cursor or Hermes. Every guide is also in Chinese.
Getting started
- What is the AgentSoul iPhone app (干将)?AgentSoul: Enneagram for Bots, called 干将 in Chinese, is a free iPhone app that reads how you talk or think and forges a personality for your AI agent: a named soul with three behaviour traits (and, with the Gao Dao mentor, an Enneagram type and wing) plus four Markdown files you can drop into Claude Code, OpenClaw, Cursor or Hermes.
- Forge your first soul on iPhone in five minutesInstall AgentSoul from the App Store, tap “Start forging”, choose Flash Forge, agree to the AI consent screen, pick 3–10 of your own chat screenshots (or the sample chats) and tap “Start reading”. About two minutes later you have a named soul, a sigil and four agent files to send to your computer.
- Flash Forge on iPhone, step by stepFlash Forge reads 3–10 screenshots of your own chats and forges an agent soul, with a name, a sigil and three behaviour traits, in about 30–120 seconds. The screenshots are resized on your iPhone, read in memory by Google Gemini after you consent, and never stored; only the resulting reading is kept.
- Which chat screenshots give the best readingThe best Flash Forge readings come from 5–10 clear screenshots where you are doing most of the talking, in your natural voice, across different situations: deciding, disagreeing, helping, joking. Avoid screenshots that are mostly other people, forwarded content, or text too small to read.
- Try AgentSoul without your own chats: sample chatsOn the Flash Forge screenshot screen, tap “No chat screenshots to hand? Try it with sample chats”. The app loads fictional example chats, you tap “Start reading”, and you get a complete result with a soul name, sigil, three traits and four files, without sharing anything of your own.
- A Gao Dao conversation, step by stepChoose Gao Dao, pick the kind of agent you want to configure, agree to the AI consent screen, then answer up to 12 questions in Chinese about real moments in your life, by typing or holding to talk. Gao Dao then forms your Enneagram type and wing, four agent files and a free in-depth report in about one to two minutes.
- How to read your result: name, traits, type, wing and sigilEvery AgentSoul result gives your soul a name, shows the Enneagram figure (the app’s sigil) and sums up your agent in three traits: Voice, Pushback and Priority. Flash Forge stops there, as a reading of your style with no type number. Gao Dao also gives an Enneagram type from 1 to 9, usually a wing written like 5w4, and a deep report with your subtype and other possible types.
- Send your four agent files from iPhone to Mac (AirDrop, Files, email)On your soul’s result, tap “Get the four files”, then “Send to computer”. The iPhone share sheet opens with soul.md, identity.md, user.md and agents.md as four separate Markdown files: AirDrop them to a Mac, save them to Files, or email them to yourself for any computer.
- The My souls library and Settings, explainedMy souls lists every soul you have forged on this iPhone, tied to an anonymous device ID rather than an account. Settings lets you switch between English and Chinese, turn notifications on or off, read the privacy policy and terms, contact the team, withdraw AI consent and delete all your data.
- Flash Forge or Gao Dao: which should you choose?Choose Flash Forge if you want a result in about two minutes from 3–10 chat screenshots, in any language. Choose Gao Dao if you are comfortable in Chinese and want a slower, reflective mentor conversation of up to 12 questions that ends with an Enneagram type, a wing and a free in-depth report. Both produce the same four agent files.
Your four agent files
- soul.md, identity.md, user.md, agents.md: the four files explainedEvery soul you forge in the AgentSoul iPhone app (干将) comes as four Markdown files: soul.md says who the agent is, identity.md how it presents itself, user.md who it serves, and agents.md how it does the work. Together they give an AI agent a stable personality instead of a blank slate.
- Use your AgentSoul files with Claude CodeCopy the four AgentSoul files into your project, then add a few lines to CLAUDE.md that import them with @soul.md-style references. Claude Code reads CLAUDE.md at the start of every session, so the personality loads automatically.
- Use your AgentSoul files with OpenClawOpenClaw workspaces already boot from soul.md, identity.md, user.md and agents.md, so AgentSoul files fit directly: back up the workspace’s existing persona files, replace their contents with your forged ones, and start a new session.
- Use your AgentSoul files with CursorIn Cursor, the simplest route is an AGENTS.md file at the root of your project that carries your agents.md content and points to soul.md, identity.md and user.md. For finer control, turn the soul into a project rule that is always applied.
- Use your AgentSoul files with HermesHermes picks up a SOUL.md for personality and an AGENTS.md for project conventions automatically. Put your forged soul.md in your Hermes home folder as a global SOUL.md, and keep agents.md content in each project’s AGENTS.md.
- Use your soul in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini chatsYou do not need a coding tool to use an AgentSoul soul. Paste a condensed version of soul.md and user.md into your chat assistant’s custom instructions, or add the four files to a project or custom assistant so every conversation starts with your personality and preferences.
- soul.md deep dive: what each field doessoul.md is the agent’s core identity: name, nature, core values, vibe, aspiration, rules and unknowns, grounded in your core desire and core fear — and, if your result includes one (Gao Dao), your Enneagram type and wing. Every response the agent writes is shaped by it, which is why it is the first file to read and the last to edit carelessly.
- user.md: teach your agent who it servesuser.md tells your agent who it is working for: your name and role, your goals, how you like to be spoken to, and what it may access. Without it, an agent treats you as a stranger every session; with it, the agent can personalise from the first message.
- agents.md: your agent’s operating manualagents.md is the step-by-step playbook that tells an agent how to do its work: its job, its role (solo or orchestrator), the ordered steps it follows, and when to escalate to a human. soul.md says who the agent is; agents.md says what it does and how.
- Editing and evolving your files after forgingYour four AgentSoul files are plain text and fully yours to edit. Keep soul.md stable and change it deliberately, update user.md as your goals change, refine agents.md as you watch the agent work, and keep a copy off your phone — souls in the app live only on that device.
The nine types as agents
- The Type 1 (Reformer) agent: principled, preciseA Type 1 agent is built around the Reformer’s drive to make things right: it holds a high standard, names errors early and explains the principle behind every recommendation. It excels at review, QA and standards work, and needs guardrails against perfectionism and moralising.
- The Type 2 (Helper) agent: warm, attentive, people-firstA Type 2 agent is configured from the Enneagram Helper: it reads what you need, speaks to feelings before facts and softens hard truths without diluting them. It shines as an assistant, tutor or support agent, and needs guardrails against flattery and people-pleasing.
- The Type 3 (Achiever) agent: focused, fast, outcome-ledA Type 3 agent is configured from the Enneagram Achiever: it turns goals into milestones, cuts through deliberation and ships. It is excellent for planning, launches and productivity work, and needs guardrails so that looking successful never outranks being accurate.
- The Type 4 (Individualist) agent: original, expressive, deepA Type 4 agent is configured from the Enneagram Individualist: it looks for the distinctive angle, refuses formulaic output and names the texture of an experience precisely. It suits creative writing, brand voice and reflective work, and needs guardrails against mood-driven stalls and over-complication.
- The Type 5 (Investigator) agent: curious, exact, independentA Type 5 agent is configured from the Enneagram Investigator: it models a problem before acting, separates what is known from what is assumed and says “I don’t know” when that is true. It is ideal for research, analysis and technical deep dives, and needs guardrails against endless research loops.
- The Type 6 (Loyalist) agent: careful, reliable, risk-awareA Type 6 agent is configured from the Enneagram Loyalist: it asks “what would break this?”, catches edge cases and holds the line under pressure. It is a strong fit for security, testing, planning and operations, and needs guardrails against second-guessing and worst-case spirals.
- The Type 7 (Enthusiast) agent: inventive, energetic, possibility-mindedA Type 7 agent is configured from the Enneagram Enthusiast: it generates options fast, connects unrelated ideas and reframes problems as openings. It is a natural brainstorming and ideation partner, and needs guardrails so that it finishes what it starts and does not skip past real problems.
- The Type 8 (Challenger) agent: direct, decisive, protectiveA Type 8 agent is configured from the Enneagram Challenger: it decides fast, says what it thinks and pushes problems back to the level where action is possible. It suits execution, negotiation prep and tough feedback, and needs guardrails so that confidence never hides how fragile an assumption is.
- The Type 9 (Peacemaker) agent: calm, inclusive, steadyingA Type 9 agent is configured from the Enneagram Peacemaker: it lowers the temperature, holds several viewpoints at once and restores flow when work is stuck. It suits facilitation, summarising and family or team coordination, and needs guardrails so that it still makes hard calls and states its own view.
- Wings and archetypes: why your result has more than a numberA wing is the neighbouring Enneagram type that flavours your main type, written like 5w4 or 5w6, and an archetype is the name AgentSoul gives to how that type works as an agent. Together they explain why two agents of the same type can feel quite different.
Gao Dao and Chinese
- Why Gao Dao 高导 is a Chinese-first mentorGao Dao 高导 is the conversational forge in the AgentSoul iPhone app (干将), and it speaks Chinese because the people who talk about themselves most naturally in Chinese deserve a mentor who listens in that language. The app around it still works in English or Simplified Chinese.
- The legend of 干将: why the app is named after a sword-smithThe Chinese name of the AgentSoul iPhone app, 干将, comes from Gan Jiang, a legendary sword-smith of the Spring and Autumn period who, with his wife Mo Ye, forged a pair of famous swords. The app borrows the image: you do not download a personality for your AI agent, you forge one.
- 九型人格入门: an Enneagram primer for Chinese speakersThe Enneagram (九型人格) describes nine personality types, each built around a core motivation and a core fear, with a wing and an instinctual subtype adding nuance. This primer gives the Chinese and English names side by side, so you can follow Gao Dao 高导 and read your AgentSoul result with confidence.
- The six agent types you can forge with Gao DaoBefore a Gao Dao 高导 conversation starts, you choose one of six agent types: Personal assistant, Work & study, Professional agent, Child’s study buddy, Family calendar, or Not sure yet. The choice shapes what Gao Dao asks about and the agent configuration you receive; the four output files are the same in every case.
- Speak instead of type: on-device voice in Gao DaoIn the AgentSoul iPhone app you can answer Gao Dao 高导 by holding the talk button and speaking. Speech is recognised on the iPhone itself, no audio leaves the phone, and the transcript lands in the message box for you to check before you send it.
- What’s in the free Gao Dao in-depth reportEvery finished Gao Dao 高导 conversation comes with a free in-depth report, the 高导深度报告, in four chapters: Motivation map; Fear, Desire and Belief; Relationship patterns; and an AI agent collaboration guide. It explains why Gao Dao reached its type hypothesis and how an agent should work with you.
- Why a mentor conversation can reveal more than a questionnaireA questionnaire asks everyone the same fixed questions and relies on how you see yourself; a mentor conversation like Gao Dao 高导 follows your actual stories, asks why they mattered, and tests two likely types against each other. That makes it better at reaching motivation, which is what the Enneagram is about, though both are useful.
- Bilingual agents: configuring an AI that works in Chinese and EnglishTo get an AI agent that works well in both Chinese and English, write your language rules down in its configuration: when to use which language, which Chinese script, what register, and which terms to keep in English. The four AgentSoul files give each rule a natural home, in soul.md, user.md and agents.md.
- Forging a patient study buddy for your child: a parent guideIn the AgentSoul iPhone app, a parent can choose Child’s study buddy (孩子的学习伙伴) in Gao Dao 高导 to forge a patient, encouraging learning companion. The app is rated 13+, so the parent runs the conversation, then adapts the four files for the child and sets clear rules before any AI tool is used with them.
- AI agents for Chinese speakers abroad: family, work, studyFor Chinese speakers living outside China, an AI agent is most useful when it understands both worlds: the language you think in and the language you work in. The AgentSoul iPhone app (干将), available in 174 App Store regions, lets you forge such an agent in Chinese with Gao Dao 高导 and use the four resulting files with the assistants you already rely on.
Privacy and questions
- How the AgentSoul app protects your privacyThe AgentSoul iPhone app has no account, never stores your Flash Forge screenshots, keeps only a summary of Gao Dao conversations, and sends nothing to its AI provider (Google Gemini) until you agree on a consent screen. You can delete everything linked to your phone from Settings.
- Are my screenshots stored? What happens to them in Flash ForgeNo. Flash Forge screenshots are resized on your iPhone, sent to Google’s Gemini API for analysis, processed in memory only and then discarded. AgentSoul keeps the resulting reading, the number of screenshots and a one-way fingerprint — never the images.
- The AI consent screen: what is sent to Google Gemini and whyBefore the AgentSoul app sends anything to its AI provider, it shows a consent screen. If you agree, your chosen screenshots (Flash Forge) or your typed and dictated answers plus the agent type you picked (Gao Dao) go to Google’s Gemini API, solely to produce your reading and four agent files.
- How to delete your AgentSoul data (and withdraw AI consent)In the AgentSoul iPhone app, open Settings, tap “Delete my data”, tick the confirmation and tap “Delete permanently”. That erases every soul, file bundle, deep report, Gao Dao conversation record and device record linked to your phone. To stop future sending to Google Gemini without deleting anything, tap “Withdraw” next to “AI processing by Google”.
- Is AgentSoul a personality test or a diagnosis?AgentSoul is an Enneagram-based personality reading whose real purpose is to configure an AI agent. Its result is an AI-generated reading — in Gao Dao, an Enneagram type hypothesis — a starting point for reflection and for your agent files — not a diagnosis, a clinical assessment or a judgement about your mental health.
- AgentSoul app vs web: what’s the difference? Both the AgentSoul iPhone app and the website at agentsoul.market forge the same four agent files. The app is built for the phone — no account, native photo picker, on-device voice in Gao Dao, a My souls library — while the web works on any device and is currently the only place to take the 49-question Deep Forge.
- Can I use AgentSoul on iPad, Android or Mac?The AgentSoul app is iPhone-only (iOS 15.0 or later); there is no iPad, Android or Mac app yet. On those devices, use the website at agentsoul.market, which forges the same four agent files — and a Mac is still the natural place to receive and use the files you forge on your iPhone.
- Where is the AgentSoul app available? The AgentSoul iPhone app (干将) is available in 174 App Store regions, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, the US, Canada and Australia. It is not available in the China mainland App Store. It runs in English and Simplified Chinese.
- Is the AgentSoul app really free?Yes. The AgentSoul iPhone app is free to download and use, with no in-app purchases, no subscription, no ads and no account. Every feature — Flash Forge, Gao Dao, the four agent files and the Gao Dao in-depth report — is included; the only limit is a daily cap on Gao Dao use.
- What’s next for the AgentSoul app: Deep Forge in v1.1The next confirmed step for the AgentSoul iPhone app is Deep Forge, the 49-question Enneagram questionnaire, arriving in version 1.1. Until then it is available on the web at agentsoul.market. Anything beyond that is still an idea being explored, not a promise.
