AI agents for Chinese speakers abroad: family, work, study

For Chinese speakers living outside China, an AI agent is most useful when it understands both worlds: the language you think in and the language you work in. The AgentSoul iPhone app (干将), available in 174 App Store regions, lets you forge such an agent in Chinese with Gao Dao 高导 and use the four resulting files with the assistants you already rely on.

If you are a Chinese speaker living abroad, the most useful AI agent is one that understands both sides of your life: the family group chat in Chinese and the work email in English, the school forms in one language and the bedtime story in another. The AgentSoul iPhone app, 干将, lets you forge that kind of agent in Chinese with Gao Dao 高导, then use the four files it produces with the AI assistants you already use.

Where the app is available

The app was approved by Apple in October 2026 and is offered in 174 App Store regions, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia. It is not available in China mainland. It runs on iPhone with iOS 15.0 or later and is free, with no in-app purchases, no subscription, no ads and no sign-up. On iPad, Android or a computer, the web Soul Forge at agentsoul.market makes the same four files.

Family: one calendar, three generations

Families abroad often coordinate across time zones and languages: grandparents back home, children in local schools, parents juggling both. Gao Dao’s Family calendar agent type (家庭日程管家) is designed for smoother family logistics with less friction. After forging, you can tell the agent in user.md who is in the family and how each person prefers to be addressed, and in agents.md how to handle reminders, such as summarising school notices in Chinese for grandparents and keeping replies to the school in English.

  • Note time zones in user.md, so the agent does not suggest a call at 3 a.m. for relatives.
  • Write down which script each family member reads, Simplified or Traditional.
  • Keep children’s identifying details out of the files; general descriptions are enough.

Work: two languages, one professional voice

Many people abroad think through a problem in Chinese and then present it in English. Work & study (工作与学习) shapes an agent around focus, task tracking and handling pressure at your pace. If you build software or run agents in tools such as Claude Code, OpenClaw or Cursor, Professional agent (专业 Agent 配置) produces soul files for that setting. Either way, add a language rule to soul.md, for example “Discuss in whichever language I use; write final client-facing text in English”, and a short glossary of terms to keep in English.

Study: support that understands how you learn

International students and adult learners face a particular kind of pressure: new academic conventions, deadlines in a second language, and often distance from family. A Work & study agent can help plan, check understanding in Chinese before you write in English, and nudge without nagging. Your Enneagram type matters here. A Type 1 may need an agent that helps them stop polishing; a Type 7 may need one that gently brings them back to the essay.

Why forge in Chinese

Gao Dao asks about real moments, and for many people abroad the most revealing moments happened in Chinese: a phone call with parents, a misunderstanding with a relative, a decision about whether to stay or go home. Telling those stories in the language they happened in gives Gao Dao better material. If you prefer English, Flash Forge 闪电熔铸 reads screenshots of your own chats in either language, and the interface switches between English and Simplified Chinese in Settings.

Getting started

  1. Search the App Store for AgentSoul or 干将, or open agentsoul.market on another device.
  2. Tap Start forging, choose Gao Dao, and pick the agent type closest to your need.
  3. Accept the AI consent screen; your conversation text is sent to Google Gemini to produce the reading.
  4. Answer up to 12 questions in Chinese, typing or holding to talk.
  5. Send the four files to your computer with AirDrop, Files or email, add your language and family rules, and load them into your agent.

The result is an AI-generated type hypothesis, not a diagnosis, and a starting point you will keep refining. Living between two cultures is complicated; your agent does not need to solve that, only to understand it a little better than a blank assistant would.

Questions

Can I download the app with a China mainland Apple ID?

The app is not available on the China mainland App Store. It is offered in 174 other regions, and the web version at agentsoul.market produces the same four files.

My parents only read Traditional Chinese. Is that supported?

The app interface and Gao Dao use Simplified Chinese. Many Traditional readers follow it comfortably, and the agent you build can be told in user.md to write in Traditional characters.

Do I need an account to keep my souls?

No. Souls are kept in My souls on your iPhone, tied to an anonymous device ID. Send the files to your computer to keep a copy elsewhere.
