A Gao Dao conversation has four parts: choose the kind of agent you want, agree to the consent screen, answer up to 12 questions from the mentor in Chinese, then let Gao Dao form your reading. You end with the same four agent files as Flash Forge, plus two things Flash Forge does not give: an Enneagram type with a wing, and a free in-depth report that explains how Gao Dao reached its view.
Where Flash Forge listens to how you already talk, Gao Dao asks you to slow down and recall real moments. It is tagged “Deepest” on the forge screen for that reason.
Step 1: choose what kind of agent
After you tap “Start talking with Gao Dao”, the app asks “What kind of agent should Gao Dao help you configure?” The answer shapes what Gao Dao asks about and the configuration you get. There are six options:
- Personal assistant (我的个人助理): an AI that understands how you communicate, decide and react.
- Work & study (工作与学习): focus, task tracking and handling pressure, at your pace.
- Professional agent (专业 Agent 配置): soul files for Claude Code, OpenClaw and similar agents.
- Child’s study buddy (孩子的学习伙伴): a patient, encouraging learning companion, configured by a parent.
- Family calendar (家庭日程管家): smoother family logistics with less friction.
- Not sure yet (还不确定): just talk with Gao Dao first and see what type you are.
Pick one and tap “Start the conversation”. If you have an unfinished conversation, a “Continue your last conversation” option appears here too.
Step 2: the consent screen
The first time, before anything is sent, the app explains that the answers you type or dictate, and the agent type you chose, go to Google’s Gemini API, which powers Gao Dao. It also says what is kept: a summary of the conversation and your result, not your raw messages. Tap “Agree and continue” to begin. You can withdraw this consent in Settings at any time.
Step 3: the conversation
Gao Dao opens with a question, and a counter shows your progress, from question 1 of 12 onwards. The questions are about specific moments rather than abstract self-ratings: a time you pushed back, a decision you still think about, what you do first when plans fall apart. Concrete stories give the mentor far more to work with than adjectives.
- Type your answer in the message box and tap Send, or press and hold the microphone button to talk. Speech is recognised on the iPhone itself, so no audio leaves the phone; only the resulting text is sent.
- Gao Dao usually replies in a few seconds, occasionally taking up to around 15.
- If you feel you have said enough, tap “End here and see the reading so far” at any point.
- After the final question, tap “Form my reading”.
If a conversation touches on crisis topics such as self-harm, Gao Dao pauses and offers a way to find free, confidential helplines near you. You can come back and talk later.
Step 4: forming your reading
The screen reads “Gao Dao is forming your reading” and works through four steps: reviewing the conversation, distilling motives, fears and desires, forming a type hypothesis, and writing the deep report and four files. This usually takes one to two minutes, and you can opt in to a single notification and leave the app meanwhile.
The reveal shows your type, wing, archetype and sigil. From there, “Read the Gao Dao deep report” opens chapters on your motivation map, fear, desire and belief, relationship patterns, and an AI agent collaboration guide. “Get the four files” takes you to soul.md, identity.md, user.md and agents.md, ready to send to your computer.
Limits and what is stored
Gao Dao has a daily usage limit. If it has been busy, you will see “Gao Dao has had a full day. Please come back tomorrow.” The full conversation is never stored, only the summary used to build your result, and “Delete my data” in Settings removes your Gao Dao conversations along with your souls. As with every AgentSoul result, the reading is an AI-generated type hypothesis, not a diagnosis.
Questions
Do I need to speak Chinese to use Gao Dao?
Gao Dao asks its questions in Chinese, so you will get the most from it if you are comfortable reading and answering in Chinese. If you prefer English, Flash Forge works with chats in any language.
How long does a Gao Dao conversation take?
It depends on how much you share. There are up to 12 questions, you can end early at any point, and forming the result afterwards usually takes one to two minutes.
What happens if I close the app mid-conversation?
You can tap “Continue your last conversation” when you come back. Earlier messages are not shown again on the device, but Gao Dao remembers the key points and you carry on answering.
