Why Gao Dao 高导 is a Chinese-first mentor

Gao Dao 高导 is the conversational forge in the AgentSoul iPhone app (干将), and it speaks Chinese because the people who talk about themselves most naturally in Chinese deserve a mentor who listens in that language. The app around it still works in English or Simplified Chinese.

Gao Dao 高导 is the deeper of the two forges in the AgentSoul iPhone app, and it speaks Chinese. It is a mentor who asks about real moments in your life and listens for what drives you, and for many people those moments live in Chinese: a conversation with a parent, a tense meeting, a decision made late at night. Everything around the conversation, from the welcome screen to Settings, is available in English or Simplified Chinese.

The language you feel in

A personality reading is only as good as the stories it hears. When people describe themselves in a second language, they tend to reach for safe, general words: “I am organised”, “I like helping people”. When they speak in the language they grew up with, the details come back. The specific thing a mother said, the word a manager used, the small embarrassment that still stings. Those details are exactly what an Enneagram mentor needs, because the Enneagram is about motivation and fear, not about surface habits.

AgentSoul is built for people around the world who speak or love Chinese, as well as English-speaking AI-agent builders. For the first group, a Chinese-first mentor removes a layer of translation between what they feel and what they say. For the second group, Flash Forge 闪电熔铸 offers an English-friendly path to the same four files, and the web Deep Forge an English questionnaire that also gives a type.

What a Chinese-first mentor sounds like

Gao Dao is written as an experienced Enneagram mentor: warm, direct and observant. It asks one question at a time, keeps its replies short, and anchors each question in what you just said. It does not quote your words back at you, and it uses English terms such as wing or subtype only where they are the natural choice, the way many Chinese-speaking Enneagram teachers already do.

  • It asks for a concrete recent scene rather than an abstract self-description.
  • It notices tensions between two answers without accusing you of contradiction.
  • It holds back from naming a type until the end, even if you ask early.
  • It is a mentor, not a therapist or a diagnostician, and the result is a type hypothesis.

English around the edges

You do not need to switch your whole phone to Chinese to use Gao Dao. The app has two interface languages, English and Simplified Chinese, and you choose between them in Settings. With the English interface, the agent-type cards show both names, such as Personal assistant and 我的个人助理, and the screen tells you plainly that Gao Dao speaks Chinese before you begin.

Hold-to-talk voice input follows the interface language and runs on the iPhone itself, so if you want to speak Chinese to Gao Dao, set the app to Chinese first. Typing works in either case.

When to choose Flash Forge instead

Gao Dao is the deepest path, but not the only one. If reading Chinese would slow you down, or you simply want a result in a few minutes, Flash Forge 闪电熔铸 reads three to ten screenshots of your own chats instead. You can even try it first with the built-in sample chats. Both forges end in the same four files. The difference is the reading: a Flash result gives an archetype-style name and three soul traits, while only Gao Dao gives an Enneagram type, wing and subtype with its reasoning.

The same soul at the end

Whichever language you answer in, Gao Dao produces an Enneagram type, a wing and an archetype name, shown on the Enneagram figure (the app’s sigil) with your type and wing marked, plus four Markdown files: soul.md, identity.md, user.md and agents.md. Gao Dao adds a free in-depth report, the 高导深度报告, that explains the reasoning behind the reading. You can send the files to a computer with AirDrop, Files or email and drop them into Claude Code, OpenClaw or another agent harness.

Questions

Can I use Gao Dao if my Chinese is limited?

Gao Dao replies in Chinese, so you need to be comfortable reading it. The buttons and screens around the conversation can stay in English, and Flash Forge is a good alternative if Chinese is a stretch.

Does Gao Dao speak Cantonese or Traditional Chinese?

Gao Dao writes in Simplified Chinese, the language the app supports alongside English. Readers of Traditional characters can usually follow it, but there is no separate Traditional or Cantonese version.

How is a Gao Dao result different from a Flash Forge result?

Both give you the same four agent files. Only Gao Dao gives an Enneagram type, wing and subtype, marked on the Enneagram figure (the app’s sigil), along with other possible types and the free in-depth report; a Flash result has an archetype-style name and voice, pushback and priority traits instead.
