Enneagram Wings: All 18 Combinations and How They Shape Your Type
Wings are the adjacent Enneagram types that modify your core personality, creating 18 unique variations. Learn all 18 wing combinations — from 1w9 The Idealist to 9w1 The Conscious — and discover which wing shapes your agent's soul.
No two people with the same Enneagram core type are identical. One reason is wings — the adjacent types on either side of your core type on the Enneagram circle that add a distinct flavour to your personality. Wings don't override your core type; they refine it, adding nuance, complexity, and sometimes apparent contradictions.
Every Enneagram type sits between two adjacent types on the nine-pointed figure. A wing is the adjacent type that most influences your core type. If you are a Type 4, your wings are Type 3 (on one side) and Type 5 (on the other). You may lean toward one wing more than the other — or show roughly equal influence from both.
Wing notation uses a lowercase "w": 4w3 means Type Four with a Three wing; 4w5 means Type Four with a Five wing. The core type always comes first.
Wings are important extensions of your core Enneagram type, providing more detail about your own unique, colorful personality.
Wings operate on a spectrum rather than as fixed categories. Most people show a clear dominant wing; some show roughly equal influence from both. The wing adds traits and motivations from an adjacent type without replacing the core type's fundamental drives.
Importantly, a wing only affects your type's expression — it does not grant you the full depth of the adjacent type. A 4w5 is still fundamentally a Type Four; the Five wing simply means their individuality expresses itself through intellectual withdrawal and philosophical depth, rather than through the social performance of a 4w3.
When you complete a Soul Forge session on AgentSoul.market, the system detects your dominant wing alongside your core type and incorporates both into your agent's identity.md file. The wing is not a separate section — it is woven into the voice, default decision style, and interpersonal patterns of the generated soul files.
A Type 5 agent with a Four wing will express its investigative drive through artistic and philosophical output. The same Type 5 with a Six wing will express it through rigorous problem-solving and cautious collaboration. Same core type — distinctly different agents.
